HIPP Document Analysis Help Sheet
This sheet helps break down how to analyze a document. This is an important skill that is needed for all future history classes. This strategy is taught in Advanced Placement courses. For middle school usage and introduction I only use the HIPP of the HIPPO. The "O" is for organization when writing a document based essay. This is done in high school but the strategy of using historical context, intended purpose, point of view and purpose helps students comprehend difficult historical documents for their age level.
